Our History
Berkeley Vale RDA, formerly known as Summerhouse RDA, began in 1979 in Upton St Leonards. It was originally run by local ladies who had their own ponies. After a few years, its popularity had increased to the extent of needing a new home and more ponies. The Group was then based at Summerhouse Equitation Centre at Hardwicke where it remained until 2019. We relocated to Tumpy Green Equestrian Centre and adopted the name Berkeley Vale RDA Group to reflect its new home and community. Fortunately, the majority of the riders and volunteers were able to make the move and the Group has continued to support riders from the surrounding areas. As we operate during term time only, the majority of the riders have traditionally been adults but we are now looking to expand further with younger riders in nearby schools or being educated at home.
